Scripture Quotes for Contemplation

Suffering and the Cross
‘If a man wishes to come after Me, he must deny his very self, take up his cross, and follow in My steps. Whoever would preserve his life shall lose it, but whoever shall lose his life for My sake and the gospel, will preserve it. What profit does a man who gains the whole world and destroys himself in the process? What can a man offer in exchange for his life?’ (Mark 8:34-37)

Importance of Prayer

‘Love is patient, love is kind. Love is not jealous, it does not put on airs (pride), it is not snobbish. Love is never rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not prone to anger nether does it brood over injuries. Love does not rejoice in what is wrong but rejoices with the truth. There is no limit to love’s forbearance, to its trust, its hope its power to endure … There are in the end three things that last … FAITH, HOPE, AND LOVE, AND THE GREATEST OF THESE IS … LOVE!’. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7, 13)

Just know people are saying, peace and security, ruin will fall on them with the suddenness of pains overtaking a woman in labour, and there will be no escape … therefore, let us not sleep like the rest, but awake and sober! Sleepers sleep by night and drunkards drink by night. We who live by day must be alert, putting on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope of salvation as a helmet.’ (1 Thessalonians 5:2-3, 6-8)
